Seven KEE Health Secrets You’ve Never Heard

Healthy living is about more than eating your vegetables and exercising for 30 minutes a day. It is about making a total lifestyle change. Explore the seven secrets (that you’ve never heard) to living a healthier life. Karen E. Ervin of KEEnote Speaking shares seven of the 18 kees to looking younger, living longer and maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the midst of work, family and a never-ending to-do list!

Kee 1: Know Your Parents Genetics has a lot to do with your health. Looking good and living longer involves learning more about your own genetic background and how it could affect your health. It also involves knowing your family’s medical history so you can take preventative measures against disease and aging.

Kee 2: Get Debt Free ASAP The stress from debt affects every aspect of your life, especially your health. According to the Washington Post, stress is a catalyst for the aging process. A study at Ohio State University found that people with a high level of debt reported a higher level of sickness and worse health than people with low debt. Create a plan to get debt free ASAP to reduce the stress in your life and increase longevity.

Kee 3: Delay Getting Married According to the Census Bureau, approximately 50% of first marriages for men under 45 may end in divorce and between 44%-52% of women’s first marriages may end in divorce. The likelihood of a divorce is lowest for men and women age 60 for whom 36 % of men and 32 % of women may divorce from their first marriage by the end of their lives. The pressures of marriage can have a negative affect on people’s health due to the stress of maintaining a relationship. People who get married later in life often have more maturity to deal with relationships, which helps reduce stress levels.

Kee 4: Do What You Enjoy Don’t waste time doing work that you do not enjoy. It will shorten your lifespan and add stress to your life. Many people who retire at age 65 have spent more than half their life working a job they did not enjoy. Don’t let that happen to you! Use your gifts and talents to find a career that allows you to enjoy emotional, financial, and physical health.

Kee 5: Develop Positive Relationships Developing positive relationships with family and friends is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. According to the familydoctor.org, your emotions can directly affect your health. A traumatic event or a strain on a relationship can cause any number of health problems, including high blood pressure, low immune system, fatigue, headaches, insomnia, heart trouble, digestive problems, pain, loss of appetite, binge eating, muscle tension, ulcers and extreme weight gain or loss.

Kee 6: Schedule Regular Visits to the Doctor Many people only go to the doctor when they are ill. However, preventative medicine is often the best secret for maintaining a healthy body. It is easier to detect changes in your health if you and your doctor are familiar with your optimal health level. Many ailments and diseases, such as cancer, are treatable when caught early.

Kee 7: Make Your Life Exciting Get off the couch and get out of the house! Get involved with your community or alumni association. Join professional organizations. Go on a blind date. Be spontaneous! Do something you always wanted to do as a child. Have fun! The extra activity will keep your body young as well as keep you young at heart!
